restaurants todos santos

After eating lots of amazing food in Todos Santos, Baja California, I decided it would be rude not to write about it. In this guide to the best restaurants in Todos Santos, I’m going to share everything we ate from cheap and cheerful fish tacos to nice sit-down dinners, plus coffee and ice cream. All the important stuff!

For things to do in Todos Santos, Baja California, I have a dedicated guide!

Best restaurants in Todos Santos for lunch and dinner

The following places are sit-down restaurants where you can enjoy amazing food and drinks. Many places have great ambiance, as I’ll mention as we go.

Later, I’ll discuss more chilled street food options for those traveling on a budget.

Tiki Santos Bar

Our favorite Todos Santos restaurant for ceviche

Tiki Santos Bar was probably my favorite place we ate in Todos Santos. I’d researched it already so took my friend there along a quiet path that looked like it was going nowhere. Where are we going? she must have been thinking…

Luckily, this tucked-away restaurant in Todos Santos is well worth finding. Set in a covered garden area, it’s atmospheric and busy (due to being known as one of the best places to eat in Todos Santos) but casual. You certainly don’t need to dress up for dinner here!

Pet owners will be happy to know it’s dog-friendly.

The star dish is their famous ceviche: choose the fish, shrimp, or seasonal ceviche with a mix of seafood. We commented that it was the best ceviche we’d had in Baja… Which was a lot, by the way!

Other dishes on the menu include seafood tostadas (red, green, or black), sashimi, octopus carpaccio, aguachiles, tacos (shrimp, octopus, fish, or oyster), burritos, and seafood burgers. I wish we’d had time to come back and try them all.

Opening times: 12pm-8pm, Fri-Mon.

Jazamango Cafe

Jazamango is a wonderful open-concept restaurant with a farm-to-table approach meaning everything is fresh, in-season, and produced locally. It’s the brainchild of chef, Javier Plascencia, a Baja California local who clearly cares about sustainability in his home region.

The menu is divided into ‘small plates’ (with options like Baja oysters and the catch of the day from Punta Lobos), ‘from our garden’ (fresh veggie-inspired dishes like zucchini carpaccio and tabbouleh salad), pizza, and other elevated sides and sharer dishes using meat, fish, and veggies.

The open-plan, airy restaurant with an outdoor garden is a lovely place for a long, leisurely lunch. There’s an onsite bakery, plus they often host special events. Go follow them on Instagram for their news, or check the ‘events’ tab of their website.

Opening times: 8am-6pm daily, closed Wednesdays.

Barracuda Cantina

We headed into Plaza Amigos food court looking for a particular restaurant that turned out to have shut down recently. All was not lost because we stumbled upon Barracuda Cantina which is a cool, casual restaurant with outdoor seating and colorful wall murals.

I’d just eaten but my friend ordered seafood tacos which she said were very tasty. They also serve guac, ceviche, and seafood burritos and quesadillas.

I ordered a cocktail that I forgot the name of, but you’ll find it easily knowing the main ingredients are passionfruit and mezcal.

Opening times: 12.30-8pm daily; closed Weds.

El Refugio Mezcaleria

You might expect this to be a bar and, although they do serve the biggest range of mezcal in town, El Refugio Mezcaleria is also one of the best Todos Santos restaurants. It’s a no-frills, family-run joint serving hearty Mexican food like pozole (Thursdays only), enchiladas, and meat and veggie plates.

The menu lists mezcals by region (and of course, Oaxaca is the biggest category) with mystical stories about each type.

Despite the local vibe, they even have options for vegetarians.

Note – it’s cash only.

Opening times: 9am-2.30pm & 5-10pm daily; closed Mon.

Hierbabuena

Translating as ‘peppermint’, this highly-rated restaurant near Todos Santos is close to the pueblo of El Pescadero which is worth a visit in its own right. Hierbabuena are known for their creative dishes and cocktails.

Eating pizza in Mexico may not be the most cultural move but, if you’re going to do it anywhere, do it here because the pizza is excellent. They also have traditional dishes like soups and enchiladas.

Don’t miss the coconut fan for dessert!

With a farm-to-table concept like Jazamango, they have a lovely garden where you can go for a walk. It’s recommended to arrive early and watch sunset in their garden before enjoying a delicious dinner.

Opening times: 3pm-9pm daily; closed Mon.

Matatena La Especial

Matatena La Especial

This was the first place I ate in Todos Santos. We’d just arrived by bus from La Paz and had to drag our suitcases over a giant, sandy mountain to our accommodation so I was STARVING. Seeing the words ‘fish tacos and margaritas’ plastered outside, I dashed in like a bat out of hell!

Matatena La Especial isn’t as well known as some restaurants in Todos Santos but I was a fan. It’s a relaxed colorful corner with pink and turquoise walls that I got the impression is run by a local family. There’s also a cute cafe dog, so what more could you want? If it’s quality fish tacos, it ticks all the boxes!

I ordered one fish and one shrimp taco which came with little dishes of guac, chopped tomato, purple cabbage coleslaw, and green salsa. The free sides and dips never failed me when traveling Baja California!

Opening times: 8.30am-10.30pm daily.

Fish Taco Santo Chilote

For outstanding fish tacos, Fish Taco Santo Chilote routinely comes up as one of the best restaurants in Todos Santos. Don’t miss the coconut shrimp tacos or the octopus tacos prepared al pastor style with sliced pineapple.

The salsas might be the highlight, though. There are so many to choose from including mango habanero salsa, purple cabbage coleslaw, salsa de molcajete, pico de gallo, and more.

Opening times: 11am-8pm daily; closed Tues.

Tacos y Mariscos El Sinaloense

Where to eat in Todos Santos for cheap fish tacos? Here!

Tacos y Mariscos El Sinaloense is another highly-rated fish taco restaurant in Todos Santos located on the edge of town. It’s a casual, no-frills joint for an affordable lunch. We’d just braved the long, dusty road from Doce Cuarenta (more on this place later) and were absolutely STARVED. This place saved the day!

We opted for one of each type of taco: shrimp, fish, octopus, and scallop. Like any self-respecting place to eat in Todos Santos, they also serve ceviche. Where doesn’t?

We paid around 200 pesos for 4 tacos. Although we’d had much cheaper fish tacos in the restaurants of La Paz a few days before, Todos is far more touristy so this is a good price!

Opening times: 11am-6pm daily, closed Mondays.

Los Adobes De Todos Santos

This is probably THE most atmospheric place to eat in Todos Santos. The huge cactus garden is packed with every shape and size of cactus imaginable! A real sight to see.

The food is tasty but not the most amazing offering that Todos Santos has to offer (and a little overpriced). The real draw of Los Adobes is the stunning surroundings to enjoy while dining.

Opening times: 12-9pm daily.

Restaurant Bar Bahía

The first thing you’ll notice when visiting Restaurant Bar Bahía is that it’s always busy: a good sign anywhere in the world. An even better sign is that many of the diners are locals who know better than anyone about the best Todos Santos restaurants!

Prices are super reasonable for the fresh, authentic seafood on offer. Choose from fish tacos, cocktails, ceviche, aguachiles, tostadas, quesadillas, soup, fried shrimp, and fish fillets. Choosing between all these mouth-watering options is going to be your main problem!

Opening times: 11am-5.30pm daily.

Street food in Todos Santos

Living in Mexico City, I’m a big fan of street food! Obviously, the tiny pueblo of Todos Santos is no match for the Mexico City street food but there are a few casual food stands, something that pleasantly surprised me since I was expecting more of a touristy, upscale vibe from the Todos Santos food scene.

If you’re on a budget, here’s where to eat in Todos Santos…

La Paceña Fish Tacos

I honestly think this lightly fried scallop taco with a little garlic and butter was one of the best things I ate in Todos Santos! It was so affordable (I think 35 pesos) and I always find things extra delicious when I’m getting a bargain!

In the center of town, La Paceña serves some of the cheapest and best food in Todos Santos. There are a couple of other stands beside it but you can identify it by the giant orange shrimp painted on the blue board.

Order what you want from the stand (options include fish, shrimp, marlin, and scallop) and take a seat at one of the tables beside it. The food arrives within minutes.

Opening times: 9.30am-4pm daily; closed Mon

Coffee and cafes in Todos Santos

When discussing the food in Todos Santos, we can’t miss baked goods and coffee. My life!

There isn’t loads to do in Todos Santos, plus it can get pretty hot, so heading to a cafe to escape the heat and enjoy the vibes is a great way to while away an afternoon. I can vouch for…

Doce Cuarenta

Doce cuarenta cafe
The coolest cafe in Todos Santos

I’ve already mentioned Doce Cuarenta in so many of my Baja blogs. I promise I don’t secretly work for them! As a major coffee addict, I love finding new coffee shops although there always seems to be one thing wrong whether it’s overly loud music, bad Wi-Fi, or uncomfortable seats.

Doce Cuarenta somehow ticked every box and I became so obsessed (with this branch and the one in La Paz) that my friend jokingly likened them to a cult I’d joined!

The only bad thing about this cafe in Todos Santos is that you have to walk down a loooong, dusty road in the heat to reach it. Unless you have a car, of course, then you can drive the bumpy road and park outside.

The cafe is enormous with a warehouse feel, loads of seating (indoor and outdoor), cool wall murals, an area of merch (obviously I bought some), and a counter where you can order every type of coffee imaginable from espresso-based drinks with milk to coffee tonic, matcha lattes, matcha tonic… The list goes on!

The baked goods are absolutely amazing. We ordered the cinnamon bun countless times!

Opening times: 7am-9pm daily.

Taller 17

Taller 17

Taller 17 is one of the most popular places to eat in Todos Santos where breakfast and baked goods are concerned. It’s in the town so, if you don’t fancy the trek to Doce Cuarenta, come here instead for fantastic coffee and bakes like banana muffins, peanut butter cookies, and toffee pecan pie.

It’s a small cafe with just a couple of low tables outside, so it’s somewhere to come for a quick eat rather than a long, leisurely brunch. You can also grab your coffee to go but I prefer to drink in for sustainability reasons. Why not, there’s rarely a rush in sleepy Todos Santos!

Opening times: 7.30am-3pm, Mon-Sat; 8am-2pm, Sun.

Caffe Todos Santos

Another brunch spot not far from Taller 17 is Caffe Todos Santos known for its great coffee and baked goods. The cinnamon roll is amazing! It doesn’t have icing like the ones in Doce Cuarenta so if you want a lighter breakfast pastry, this may be a good option.

Sit inside in the cute cafe with lots of artwork or perch yourself outside and watch the world go by.

Later in the day, they also serve pizza (made in a woodfired oven), other main meals, and drinks.

Opening times: 7.30am-2.30pm daily (until 2pm on Mon & Tues).

Best ice cream in Todos Santos

I decided this needed its own section in my Todos Santos food guide because it’s an important topic with some keen contenders. As you can tell, I take ice cream seriously!

After visiting any Todos Santos restaurant, visit these places for a cheap and tasty dessert…

Baja Tasty

Pitahaya ice cream

This is a fantastic place for sweet treats, especially when you want to cool down on a hot day. Baja Tasty is one of the longstanding ice cream parlors in town, serving a wide range of flavors. My pitahaya ice cream was delicious, and very visually pleasing, too!

Pay at the till, get a ticket, then head to the ice cream counter to choose your flavor… If you can pick!

Opening times: 9am-9pm daily.

Neveria Rocco

Just a few minutes walk from Baja Tasty is their main rival, Neveria Rocco, also known for its delicious ice cream in creative flavors like avocado. It’s not as weird as it sounds, I’ve been having avo desserts and drinks for years especially in Asia when avo smoothies were my fave!

Choose a cup or waffle cone. Whichever you choose, it’s going to melt pretty fast in the heat so eat it fast!

Opening times: 10am-7pm daily.
